Botanical Collages
Who is Rocio Montoya?
Rocío Montoya (1983) multidisciplinary artist based in Madrid, Spain.
Rocío began her journey in artistic territory from early childhood, when she saw her father paint (the artist Mariano Montoya) and she knew since she was a child that she also wanted to express her emotions through color and plastic languages.
Her first contact was with photography, a discipline in which she received a higher degree and with which she began the art of collage. Her admiration for for painting and surrealism is evident when approaching her creations, in which one can observe a clear tendency to recreate atmospheres and situations distant from pure documentary photography, characterized by a delicate, disturbing and poetic graphic style.
Meanwhile, her interest in graphic and editorial design led her to become involved in various graphic projects, including the founding and curatorial work at DOZE Magazine between 2010-2014.
In 2018, her love for illustration and painting blossomed, seeking new horizons and plastic challenges beyond the borders of photography and collage. Using techniques such as watercolor, gouache and oil, she approaches new creations with a powerful chromatic charge and with women and nature as protagonists.
The human body in synergy with nature, the female figure and the loss of identity are the conceptual bases of her work, transforming reality with image manipulation to transmit her perception of the environment through aesthetic experiences.
Her botanical illustration, collage and portrait work has led her to collaborate with brands such as Dior, Chanel, KVD, HBO, Penguin Random House or Simon and Schuster, among others.
